Everyone's favorite ComicBookMovie editor Josh Wilding posted an article with Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice stunt and fight choreographer Guillermo Grispo talks about his work on the movie. The story can be found HERE.
Obviously having Batman and Superman together for the first time in a live action film sparks some controversy and questions, but from the sound of this, and I could be jumping to conclusions early, it seems that Batman will have the upper hand in what appears to be one encounter between the two. At least that is what I got out of the interview.
Personally, this troubles me a lot. I will say first that I am a bit biased towards Superman being that he is my favorite superhero, but I can say the say about the majority of biased Batman fans, fan fic writers (Looking at you Frank Miller), and Editors on the internet. In almost every story line Superman gets the upper hand in the first encounter between he and Batman (Old comics, NEW 52, etc.). It makes sense. Batman has somewhat of an understanding of what Superman can do, but he has never really encounter the guy. There are hidden things that he doesn't know about (HINT: A WEAKNESS, powers, etc.). Kryptonite hasn't even been introduced yet, so Superman probably doesn't even know that effects him. The only thing we have seen in MoS that weakened Superman was sent into the Phantom zone. The only other person alive that knows of that weakness is Lois Lane, and I don't see her sharing drinks with Luthor or Wayne dishing out the man, whom she now loves (I'm assuming this because it's three years later), only known weakness so far in the DCCU.
Also, my biggest fear with this movie from the start has been WB's obvious boner for Batman. In fairness, he is their cashcow and most popular character, but that doesn't have to ruin the integrity of the characters and the story. My fear with Batman dismantling Superman the first time around gives off the illusion that Batman owns all (Yes, I know he is badass and all but come one here). The Trinity, at least, have always been seen as equals within the DC story. Putting Batman over Superman immediately tells the audience that the DCCU will be Batman & Friends and not just The Super Friends. Some of you may object with this but fact is fact. Superman is the FACE of the Justice League. That does not mean he is the leader. The Justice League should have no leader. They should all contribute something to the team as equals, but I feel as if this could tarnish Superman's role as the traditional face and mediator of the Justice League.
I do think Batman should come out on top eventually, but not in a first encounter where Superman is still pretty much foreign to Batman. That and I would never hear the end of it from die-hard Batman fans. They, the fans, can be about as obnoxious as Dallas Cowboy fans.
These are just some of my concerns about the movie. Either way, I will be seeing this at midnight. I may walk out with a little disappointment if things don't go how the comics traditionally set up these two characters, but I feel as if I will still like it. But who knows maybe WB will throw us for a big loop and surprise us all.
