Quit getting your hopes up Buoy! They'll release the trailer nine months ahead of the film's release, just like every other DC film! WE CAN'T KNOW FOR SURE! WE GOTTA HAVE HOPE!

Star Wars is different because the hype for that films exceeds the hype for any other film ten fold.

I don't see how releasing a trailer earlier than usual can negatively affect the movie.

I don't see how releasing a trailer earlier than usual can negatively affect the movie. Too early for exposure, and once you start early it's hard to stop (e.g. The Amazing Spider-Man 2).

All they need to do is space out the trailers and not give too much away. The man of steel teaser came out quite a bit before man of steel came out and it did fine exposure wise.

The man of steel teaser came out quite a bit before man of steel came out and it did fine exposure wise. It's not as easy as just spacing out the trailers. Once you start you just can't stop, you have to stick with it, and starting it too early just sets you up for excess exposure, which sometimes is a good thing, other times a bad thing. This early, it'd be a bad thing. WB might be able to get away with a small, small, teaser this early, but that's it. Definitely not an actual trailer. Look at TASM 2. They gave us a lot of footage very early, which they didn't have to. Once you get close to the film's release, you have to show so much footage. Sony ended up showing way more than what they should have, but they couldn't have stopped because an expectation was already set. Plus, if you start too early you'll lose steam as you go along as well as fan interest.

I've noticed you've said The Amazing Spider-Man 2's marketing started too early many times, but I have to disagree. That film did not show footage too early, it showed too much footage. The first trailer came out in December 2013, and the movie was released in May 2014 in the states. That's only six months, and in fact it's a shorter amount of time than many first trailers are dropped. I remember a lot of people wondering why Sony hadn't released any footage at that point, since it seemed quite close to the release date. Trailer 01 showed a lot of footage, and then they just kept releasing stuff: trailer after trailer, a bunch of featurettes, 3-4 minute trailer thingies, and a billion TV spots (I feel like there was one a day at one point). So again, Sony didn't expose the movie too early, they exposed it too frequently.

Didn't find the Aquaman thread. Here is Jason Momoa as Aquaman.
